DE Public Universities

Delaware Public Universities

Summary

Every curated onAir state Hub, like this Delaware onAir Hub at de.onair.cc, will have at least one onAir Chapter overseeing the moderation of their Hub’s content and discussions.

The onAir Chapters will be associated with major public universities in each state and be lead by students and a faculty advisor. Each lead onAir Chapter will also help to establish affiliated onAir Chapters at public and private universities throughout the state.

We are currently having discussions with students and faculty at the University of Delaware to establish and manage the lead onAir Chapter for Delaware onAir. Through its chapters, US and Delaware onAir will support the nationwide effort by colleges and universities across the country to  make democracy and civic responsibility a central aspect of higher learning.

OnAir Post: DE Public Universities

About

The University of Delaware’s onAir chapter will initially focus on training interested undergrad and graduate students on how to curate Delaware onAir content especially submitting Top News articles, events, videos, and information and moderating forums in each post they curate.

Student curators will also work with state senate and house committee chairs to produce aircasts on issues being discussed and bills being proposed in their committees.

During election season, students with other other organizations like the League of Women Voters, will coordinate and produce aircasted debates with candidates.

The University of Delaware onAir chapter will also help to establish other onAir chapters at public and private universities and colleges throughout the state.

The University of Delaware is committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research and service.

From its roots as a private academy in 1743, the institution today is a research-intensive, technologically advanced university with global impact. Come join us.

OUR STORY

Our alumni tell our story of achievement — from the first class that included three signers of the Declaration of Independence and a signer of the Constitution to a Nobel Prize-winning scientist, a Tony Award-winning choreographer and the president of the United States.

Our distinguished faculty includes internationally known authors, scientists and artists. State-of-the-art facilities support UD’s academic, research and service activities.

Campus life is welcoming — enriched by distinguished guest speakers, NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics, 300-plus engaged student organizations, concerts and other arts and cultural activities.

In addition to our vibrant main campus in Newark, UD has locations across the state — in Wilmington, Dover, Georgetown and Lewes.

A thriving study-abroad program and expanding international partnerships further enhance our students’ education as global citizens.

Advancing Civic Leadership and Engaging Communities

Our efforts engage students in all aspects of their lives beyond the classroom. We strive to help students take leadership roles in developing a healthy and thriving campus community. We also provide structures, support, and encouragement for students to develop habits of contributing to the broader society through service.

Student Life encourages community engagement in two distinct areas: engagement in community, and educating students beyond the classroom to support a lifetime of active citizenship. Read our full statement on the Community Engagement Initiative.

Student Government

Internships

Searching for jobs and internships can be a daunting task, but having a strategy and knowing where to look for opportunities will make the whole process much easier.

Some individuals may graduate unsure as to their long-term career goals, while others may want to take a year or two before entering the workforce or graduate school. In those cases there are many opportunities for students to take a bridge year (also, known as a gap year).

Regardless of your career goals the Career Center provides many resources to assist with your job and internship search!

Keep in mind that building your skills in other areas, particularly networking, can present possible career options that you did not expect!

Understanding the Past, Discovering the Future

Have you ever considered how governments solve complex problems in areas like immigration, healthcare or environmental protection? Through political science you will learn about national and international politics and policymakers. You will also learn valuable skills in critical thought, oral and written communication and quantitative reasoning—the very skills most useful to employers in fields like law, business and journalism, not just politics.

All majors are required to complete three core courses: Introduction to American PoliticsIntroduction to Global Politics and Research Methods for Political Science. Beyond the core courses, you may choose to major in political science without a concentration or to specialize in one of three concentrations: American politics, global politics or public law. Political science is a flexible major that can complement your many other interests, a second major or minors and prepare you to engage an increasingly complex world.

AREAS OF STUDY

  • American Politics
  • International Relations
